Lowry Crossing

A small city along Bridgefarmer Road

Lowry Crossing is a small Collin County city east of McKinney. It incorporated on July 19, 1971, when residents worried that McKinney or Princeton would annex the area. The name comes from William L. Lowry, a Methodist circuit preacher whose land along the East Fork of the Trinity River became a wagon crossing.

There is no downtown. City business runs from a short stretch of South Bridgefarmer Road: City Hall at 1405, the volunteer fire station at 1407, the city park at 1418 and the City Administration Office at 1420. The administration office is open weekdays 8 a.m.-1 p.m. and 2-5 p.m. Homes carry McKinney (75069) or Princeton (75407) mailing addresses.

Christian Belle Winery sits farther south at 2070 S. Bridgefarmer Rd., attached to the 1845 Distillery. Community Impact listed it in April 2025 with nine wines and weekend distillery tours. The city keeps a list of 41 businesses run by residents, mostly trades and home services, with phone numbers but no addresses.

More retail is planned. The city says frontage along US 380 now has access to sanitary sewer, and it expects new businesses there within about two years. A retail business is planned for the southeast corner of Bridgefarmer Road and US 380, where the city is adding turn lanes. That work was scheduled for June-September 2026, alongside TxDOT's widening of US 380.

Parks and the outdoors

The city has one park, at 1418 S. Bridgefarmer Road. In spring 2025 a public bid sought playground equipment for it, aimed at ages 5 to 12. The bid called for an inclusive swing and two regular swings, an overhead climber, a spinner, a slide and tree-stump climbers. The city does not publish the park's acreage.

Creeks in town drain to the East Fork of the Trinity River, and the city's newsletter notes that Lake Lavon supplies local drinking water. Owners whose land backs up to a creek are responsible for keeping it clear of debris, and owners must keep roadside ditches clear down to the culvert bottom.

Errands happen in McKinney and Princeton

We found no grocery store, pharmacy or clinic inside city limits. One full-service option is the Walmart Supercenter at 701 W. Princeton Dr. in Princeton, which has a pharmacy and drive-thru and is open 6 a.m.-11 p.m. daily. Kroger broke ground in July 2026 on a Kroger Marketplace at Princeton Town Center (US 380 and Beauchamp Blvd.), with opening expected in late 2027. In June 2025 Kroger said it would close its store at 1707 W. University Dr. in McKinney.

CareNow Urgent Care runs a walk-in clinic at 670 W. Princeton Dr., Ste. 400, in Princeton. The nearest full hospital we routed to is Medical City McKinney, 4500 Medical Center Dr., a Level II trauma center with a 24/7 ER, about 19 minutes from City Hall.

We found no city library. Trash is handled by private haulers; the city lists Ecowaste Solutions and Lone Star Trash. Milligan Water Supply provides water to much of the city.

Schools depend on the address

The city says homes are in McKinney ISD or Princeton ISD. The district-hosted school-locator maps place the City Hall area in McKinney ISD, zoned to Webb Elementary (810 E. Louisiana St.) and Faubion Middle (2000 Rollins St.). For high school, the two McKinney ISD layers we checked disagree: one shows McKinney North High, the other McKinney High. McKinney ISD redrew middle and high school zones for 2026-27, so confirm with the district.

Ashford Crossing, in the 75407 part of the city, falls in Princeton ISD. The district's 2026-27 locator layer assigns it to Carrell Elementary and Banschbach Middle, both new campuses opening in 2026-27, and Princeton High School (1000 E. Princeton Dr.). Meritage Homes says its Simpson Crossing community is in McKinney ISD.

TEA ratings for 2025 (the 2024-25 school year) were: Webb Elementary D, Faubion Middle A, McKinney High A, McKinney North A and Princeton High B. McKinney ISD said all three of its high schools earned an A again in the 2026 ratings released Aug. 14, 2026, and that all its middle schools earned an A or B. We did not find 2026 ratings for Webb or Princeton High.

Getting around

Bridgefarmer Road is the city's spine and connects to US 380 on the north. Phase I of the Bridgefarmer rehab is complete. Phase II, from Settler's Trail to Settler's Bend, was being designed for fiscal 2026. Old Myrick Lane remains closed; the city puts a permanent concrete fix at $3-4 million.

From City Hall, off-peak, downtown McKinney is about 13 minutes away, Legacy West in Plano about 30, Dallas City Hall about 51, Love Field about 55 and DFW Airport about 58. These are Realust estimates from the OSRM routing engine and do not include rush-hour traffic. We found no public transit service.

Police, fire and EMS

Lowry Crossing has no police department. The Collin County Sheriff's Office (4300 Community Ave., McKinney; 972-547-5100) covers the city. In March 2026 the city said it was exploring a police department of its own, citing speeding, stop-sign violations and truck traffic on Bridgefarmer Road.

The Lowry Crossing Volunteer Fire Department, formed in 1984, is first on scene for fire, medical and traffic calls and is dispatched by the Sheriff's Office. Its station is at 1407 S. Bridgefarmer Rd. Ambulance transport comes from AMR under an interlocal agreement.
